The Minister of Health of the Nation, Mario Lugones, together with the Ambassador of the United States to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, met with representatives of the company Pfizer on the occasion of the launch of a Global Center for Clinical Data and Information Sciences (CDIS) in the country. The initiative, which comes as a result of the axes presented by the head of the health portfolio in Argentina Week, will strengthen local capacities for data generation and analysis for the development of clinical studies. According to the Argentine News Agency, the installation of this new center, which will be the only one of its kind in Latin America and the eighth for the American company worldwide, reinforces Argentina's positioning as a competitive destination for the development of studies and the production of evidence, and also represents an advance in the country's incorporation into international research networks. 'Private investment in health translates into concrete opportunities for Argentines: it generates qualified employment, strengthens local capacities, and expands the development of tools that improve diagnoses, treatments, and evidence-based clinical decisions,' Lugones assured. The new CDIS will function as a specialized unit that collects, manages, analyzes, and protects large volumes of information from clinical trials and health studies worldwide. Its objective will be to ensure the integrity, quality, and anonymization of data to accelerate research, drug development, and evidence-based clinical decision-making. 'Argentina has long been recognized for the excellence of its scientists and clinical researchers. As the government advances with economic and intellectual property reforms that foster innovation, we are seeing growing confidence from companies that invest in research and development in the country, which contributes to expanding the availability of cutting-edge medical advances for patients,' stated Lamelas. During the meeting, the importance of private investment in the development and innovation in health was highlighted. It is expected that the new center will allow for an increase of approximately 20% in the staff dedicated to clinical research in the coming months, boosting the generation of qualified employment and the development of local talent. In turn, it will contribute to strengthening the country's participation in global value chains linked to research. 'In recent years, Pfizer has invested more than USD 300 million in clinical research in the country, supporting studies in multiple therapeutic areas and strengthening the local research ecosystem,' stated Agustina Ruiz Villamil, Vice President of Pfizer Latin America South. The initiative is part of a government agenda aimed at promoting investment in strategic sectors, in line with the axes presented during Argentina Week. The country is positioning itself as a reliable destination with concrete opportunities in areas such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical production, and health technologies, based on the consolidation of conditions that allow for operation with international standards.
